Adam Levine vs. MTV

It doesn’t take much to get me started on MTV. The trash and garbage they exist upon these days compared to the glorious beauty of their early years leaves this once wannabe valley girl mumbling, “As if.” I was so appalled by the recent trash, Skins (which was cancelled after one season), that I launched a campaign against the reality show giant known as MTV.

I recently read a post by Jason a.k.a. @petcobra in which he celebrates their 30th anniversary and using sarcasm to it’s finest, laments the fact that they used to play music videos. In his final statement he asks this, (BONUS TRIVIA QUESTION: What does the “M” in “MTV” stand for? Turns out it stands for “Music”! Who knew?)

No one born after 1997 knows. That’s for sure.

Yesterday morning I awoke with a jolt and ran to my computer to see what kind of havoc Irene had unleashed on the east coast. Upon learning that the damage was much less than anticipated I quickly scrolled down the page of MSNBC.com to the entertainment section. The headline read, “Maroon Five singer Levine disses MTV, VMAs.” *click*

“Juicy,” I thought as I waited for the page to load.

I assumed it was some “prima donna, I wasn’t invited, sour grapes,” kind of thing. Then I read Adam Levine’s tweet.

Adam: the VMA’s. one day a year when MTV pretends to still care about music. I’m drawing a line i the sand. f%$k you VMA’s.

Right on, I thought.

Shortly after MTV responded with this:

MTV: @adamlevine soooo you’ll be tuning in at 9/8C tomorrow right? (BTW, bonus points if you TwitPic your 2004 Moonman!) #VMA cc @MTVBuzzWorthy

Sounds a little elementary school playground comeback. Missing is the part where they defend that they are still indeed a music channel. I guess that is a little difficult to do when you aren’t one.

Thirty minutes later Adam responded:

Adam: still waiting to have my “jerry macguire mission statement moment of deep regret…” not happening. phew!

Nice.

A few hours later I was outside hanging with the kids.

“Noah,” I yelled down to my 14 year old, “Have you ever watched a music video on MTV?”

“Once, but that was a long time ago,” he responded.

I rest Adam Levine’s case.

  1. A few months ago, my 7-year-old said, “They should have a channel of just music videos,” because she loves watching the Top 20 VH1 Countdown show.

Mad props to Adam Levine, not just because of his tweets, but because of that set of abs he’s got going on.

  2. Youtube is the new Mtv in our house! I must admit I watch much of the crappy reality stuff they show (I seriously can’t get enough of the real world road rules challenges) but I <3 Adam Levine. He was on Top Gear last night yummy!

ugh… MTV sucks. They’ve dug themselves a 2000mile deep hole and I don’t even see them getting out of it. I will never watch their shows again, and haven’t for a very long time.

  4. Rachel says:

Well said. Thank you! So tired of the trash that they are cranking out. This channel is supposed to be for teenagers, right? Would never let my children (when they are of age) watch it.

    p.s. YAY ADAM LEVINE!!!
