MOMstyle Wardrobe Rehab: The Results (or, Where Ginger Gets Her Groove Back)

The third and final part of my wardrobe rehab was the one that I had been looking forward to the most since starting this whole process. I couldn’t wait to get Nancy’s help putting outfits together, pairing pieces, seeing how to make it all happen. After getting a few of the new (and old!) pieces tailored, she joined me at my home again, for the third and final phase.

Phase 3: Putting it all together (Approximately  2 hours)

This will be the day when we will make the magic happen! We will marry your “old” items with your new ones and assemble various looks – Day to night, Date Night, Play Date, etc. I will also photograph them for you and provide a “catalog” of your looks for you to remember.

Sure enough, Nancy spent two hours with me, creating outfits, pairing accessories and clothes, showing me options, giving me advice. She took photos of outfits, both on the hanger and on me, to show me how things worked together. In some cases, she’d have me try something on and then change her mind, saying “No, I think this works better with THAT piece.”

On top of that, she gave me tips on how to pair things in the future: “You could get a cute little neutral jacket to go with this dress, that hit you about here, and it would look fabulous!” She also helped me figure out what things I could get as funds opened up to build my wardrobe further, showing me how to make things last throughout the year with a few little changes.

Once our two hours were done, after we had gone through every article of clothing and every accessory and built at least 20 outfits, it was time for my time with Nancy and Inside Out, Wardrobe Rehab to end. She left with a hug and my sincere gratitude. A few days later, an email arrived with a list of tips, suggestions, pieces to consider going forward, things to help maintain my clothes for longer..and all the photos she had taken of my outfits.

At the end of almost 10 hours together and many hours via email, after I had opened my home and my sad fashion heart to Nancy, I came away with:

  • a closet filled with clothes that fit and flattered me
  • a closet organized for prime browsing and minimal clothes wrinkling
  • A couple dozen outfits that made me feel fabulous
  • Ideas for how to wear accessories I’d had for years but had never worn
  • A sense, for the first time in years, of how to dress my body

But more than all of that, Nancy gave me confidence and a knowledge that I CAN look beautiful JUST AS I AM. She showed me how to wear clothes so that I shine through rather than wearing clothes so that I hide and turn invisible. She showed me that my budget doesn’t matter, my choices do. And she showed me that clothes and shopping can, and should, show who I am and put my best foot forward.
